Template Challenge

Okay everybody, there is a great template challenge at the Shabby Shoppe Blog. The template is super cute and fun to work with. The challenge is from the June 3rd post (they actually post daily unlike me which is more like monthly). Also, check out the cute things people have done with it in the blog challenge gallery (you can leave a comment about how cute mine is...I'd let you). Anyway, go check it out!

Memorial Day Weekend

What a good memorial day weekend. It started on Friday when Nathan's sister came to town so we went to the gravesites of Nathan's great grandparents to clean the headstones and place flowers. I never did that growing up because my parents are both from Utah so we didn't have family around. On Saturday we just relaxed and enjoyed the fact that I'm out of school for a while. Sunday night we wanted to go to the park and make some dutch oven cobbler. We decided it would be fun to spend the night as well so we took our tent and some sleeping bags and had a relaxing evening outside. Monday we went hiking with my family...well we tried. Every trail had snow right at the beginning. We got as far as we could but there was a lot of snow. The little kids still had fun running around. The best part, I didn't have to go back to work on Tuesday. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer (what there is of it).

I love Idaho

Now, some of you may be puzzled by my loving Idaho. You're thinking to yourself, "There are no real seasons." And you're partially right. I had a friend tell me that Idaho has four seasons, they're just not the same as everywhere else: just before winter, winter, just after winter, and construction. Well, right now in Idaho it is just after winter and there are some beautiful days and some not so beautiful days. Today, it is a not so beautiful day as far as the weather. However, yesterday was the last day of spring...er...just after winter break. Well, it is April 6th and we are having our first (and probably only) "extreme weather" day of the entire school year. That's right! This did not happen in actual winter, it is a just after winter treat for all those students who had projects they were supposed to finish over the break and they procrastinated too long. This is a fine life lesson to learn: if you really have the heart of the procrastinator, you'll be given the chance to procrastinate another day.

Anyway, I just thought I'd wish everyone a "Happy Extreme Weather Day" on this fine April 6th.

PS If the weather is nice and beautiful where you are, I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT!

Before and after

A few weeks ago Nathan and I stayed with my parents while my landlords re-did my kitchen. Now these pictures are before I put anything away so I'll have to post those later, but right now I'm doing taxes and therefore my counter is all sorts of a mess. But even still, you can probably tell that the change is fabulous and I am so excited for the added space I have!! I love love love it! (Meanwhile, I'm not loving having to owe taxes this year. Who decided this? Being not as poor is worse than being totally poor...people expect stuff from you.)

Happy Pi Day

Pi Day is Sunday (get it? 3.14) and since we don't have school on Sunday, my classes celbrated pi day today. We of course ate pie and we watched some great pi day music videos. And I'm such a mean teacher that I made them find the area of each pie and make a pie chart of the types of pie before they could eat any pie. My Geometry class has been working on a circle project this week and they presented them. They looked awesome! I'll have to take some pictures to post because I am just so impressed with their work! It was such a fun day and hopefully some of my students are more willing to embrace their nerdiness! As a bonus, go to youtube and check out these two songs: American Pi and Lose Yourself In the Digits.

Prime numbers

Contrary to popular belief 2 is not the first prime. That is, of course, if you are talking to my sister. She is convinced that 2 is too small to be a prime number. Additionally 3 and 5 don't count either. According to her, 7 is the first real prime. 2, 3, and 5 don't have enough number before them to make it possible for them to even be composite. 7 has 6 numbers below so it should be composite. Because of this, 7 is her favorite prime number. This got me thinking, what is my favorite prime? At first I said 83 just counter her saying there were 82 numbers before it. But upon further consideration I'd have to say my favorite is 17. There is just a beautiful ring to 17. Plus, when you think of it as age, 17 is exciting. There are no longer restrictions on your driver's license. You're on the brink of adulthood. You are definitely more mature than your 15 and 16 year old counter parts. Plus, it's always the 17 year old body you wish you had again. Not to mention the Beatles' song "She was just 17 if you know what I mean." So think about it. Don' respond too quickly. Give it some thought. What is your favorie prime?

Note: For those of you that don't know, prime numbers are not divisible by anything other than itself and one. Examples: 11, 7, 17, 83, 23. Now be careful Primes will be odd (with the exception of the number 2), but not all odds are prime. Kind of like rhombuses and squares. Also 1 IS NOT prime so that one can't be your favorite.
